The city of Johnston, IA, is part of the Des Moines-West Des Moines metropolitan area, located in Polk County. Covering more than 17 square miles of land between I-35 and Saylorville Lake, Johnston houses roughly 22,000 residents under the motto, “Thrive. Every Day.”

Johnston was established in 1905 as a railway station between Des Moines and Perry; it was named for the railway’s freight supervisor, John F. Johnston. The city was officially incorporated by popular vote in 1969. Today, Johnston is home to such companies as Pioneer Hi-Bred Seeds, Corteva Agriscience and John Deere Financial, as well as Iowa Public Television and Gardeners of America. The Paul J. and Ida Trier House is a private residence designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
